Activities for the Year 2001 

DOCUMENTATION SERVICE DIVISION
A1. Library:

  • Computerization of the library.

  • Cataloguing and classification of books purchased/donated.

  • Building of past editions of Newspapers.

  • Purchase of books and journals.

  • Creation of Internet Café for bibliographic searching and other references.

  • Creation of Electronic Database of Articles/News of Culture in Nigerian Newspapers and weeklies for which a software has already been received from UNESCO, and staff trained.

A2. Archives:

  • Lamination of I. D. cards of participants at Festac ’77.

  • Sorting and organizing of 5” x 7” original photographs from Festac '77.

  • Enlargement of photographs of size 16” x 20” preparatory to exhibition.

  • Procurement of work through donations, collection at conferences/seminars on African culture etc.

  • Upgrading of “African Architectural Technology collection.

  • Participation in exhibitions/programmes organized by the centre.

RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS DIVISION

  • A study of African Festivals

  • Continuation of the study on Eminent Africans- Americans.

  • International Symposium on African Culture and the Challenges of Globalisation.

  • Introduction of CBAAC quarterly lunch hour talk that would form the basis of CBAAC occasional publications series.

  • Two public lectures.

  • Publication of the manuscript on comparative African Literature by W. Feuser.

  • Publication of the letters of Ignatius Sanchio.

  • Public Presentation of CBAAC publication.

  • Publication of manuscript, which emanated from the workshop on the role of the Mass Media and the promotion of Black and African Democratic Culture.

  • Opening up of more sales outlet for CBAAC publications

  • Translation of the encyclopedic publication into French.

  • Publication of CBAAC quarterly news letters titled “CBAAC News”

  • Maintenance of columns, CBAAC Notes, in any of the National Dailies.

FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION

  • Coordination of activities towards the opening of the Centre's Liaison office at Abuja.

  • Construction of two pre- fabricated additional blocks to accommodate officers who may be relocating from the National Theatre rehabilitation project.

  • Repainting of the existing structure to give it a face – lift.

  • Sewing of uniforms for drivers and Mechanics in the Transport Unit.

  • Organizing a one – week course for Driver’s effectiveness.

  • Efficiency course for Registry Staff.

  • Securing permission from the appropriate quarters to enable the Directorate and Management team to attend oversees performance enhancement courses.

  • Replacement of broken louvres, and out-dated office equipment i.e. file cabinets in the Registry and other divisions.

  • Repair of faulty electrical cables and sockets.
